To me, upstate NY legend Nick Brignola is the best Baritone Saxophonist of all time. I could never play improvisational jazz to the level where I could just gig, and I’m no sax prodigy, but I identify so much with what he’s saying. Great interview
Anonymous asked: You guys make the best song lists. the Mountain Goats have shockingly few lists for a band with such a large output. Will you guys do a Mountain Goats song list? It'd make my day the day you hypothetically put it out.
That is a great compliment and a great suggestion! Most of us are big Mountain Goats fans, but to do a Mountain Goats list you have to be truly obsessive to keep up with John Darnielle’s output. We might have enough knowledge, but we never go into these things half-cocked.
“Listen to me– all of you out there! You were told by this man– your hero– that America is the greatest country in the world! He told you that Americans were the greatest people– that America could be refined like silver, could have the impurities hammered out of it, and shine more brightly! He went on about how precious America was – how you needed to make sure it remained great! And he told you anything was justified to preserve that great treasure, that pearl of great price that is America!
“Well, I say America is nothing! Without its ideals– its commitment to the freedom of all men, America is a piece of trash! A nation is nothing! A flag is a piece of cloth! I fought Adolf Hitler not because America was great, but because it was fragile! I knew that liberty could be snuffed out here as in Nazi Germany! As a people, we were no different than them! When I returned, I saw that you nearly did turn American into nothing! And the only reason you’re not less then nothing– is that it’s still possible for you to bring freedom back to America!”
singingabouteconomics asked: This season of powers is great, really reminds me of the comic now. Question on episode 8: was the record store a location or a creation of the crew?
I’m always amazed at how Richard Isanove is able to elevate any piece of black and white art. But this piece will forever bring a smile to my face because he was kind enough to hire my daughter Carlie to do the initial color flats for him.
These are the kinds of things that only mean something to a father but I’m selfishly posting it regardless. While she has many interests outside of art and I don’t know where life will take her, I will always look back at her signature inside mine and know that the force is strong with this one.
